Denuncia desaparición de Martín Ferreras, dirigente comunitario de Brisas del Este afectado por el polio en su niñez.
SANTO DOMINGO.-El presidente del Comité de los Derechos Humanos (CDH), Virgilio Almánzar, denunció esta noche que supuestos agentes de la Policía Nacional se llevaron en horas de la tarde de su residencia, en el sector Brisas del Este, al representante de esa entidad en esa zona, Martín Ferreras, el cual no aparece en ninguno de los destacamentos del municipio Santo Domingo Este.
Almánzar dijo a DL que Ferreras tiene un yeso en una pierna y en la otra discapacidad, porque fue afectado por el polio, en su niñez.

VÄRNAMO | De två nya utställningarna på Vandalorum må vara olika, men konstnärerna har ett som förenar. De har vandrat genom olika stilar innan de hittat hem.
Utställningen Skimrande bildpoesi visar ett 60-tal verk av skånske Max Walter Svanberg (1912-1994). Flera museer står på tur för Svanbergs konst eftersom det i år är 100 år sedan han föddes, och Vandalorum har lånat verken från Malmö konstmuseum.
– Det är otroligt generöst att de har medverkat till att vi kan starta här, säger Sven Lundh, Vandalorum.
Urvalet visar bredden av Svanbergs konstnärsskap.
– Vi börjar från början men sedan har det blivit fokus på 40- och 50-talen då han hade en oerhört stark och rik produktion, säger Anders Rosdahl, förste intendent på Malmö konstmuseum.

Ziekten doen zich nu door vaccinatie vaker op risicovollere leeftijden voor, omdat ze kunstmatig uitgesteld worden. Er ontstaan nieuwe problemen bij volwassenen en kinderen, die mogelijk verband kunnen houden met hun vaccinatiegeschiedenis.

Kenya, e' immune dal virus della Polio.

(AGIAFRO) - Nairobi, 16 gen. - Il ministro della Salute del Kenya, signora Beth Mugo, ha annunciato che il virus della poliomielite e' stato sradicato da questo Paese dell'Africa orientale. In un comunicato inviato ai media locali, il ministro ha sostenuto che il successo e' il risultato di una campagna di vaccinazioni, che nel 2011 ha coinvolto 5,7 milioni di minori di cinque anni, cui hanno partecipato anche l'Unicef e l'Organizzazione mondiale della Sanita' (Oms). Nello scorso settembre, in seguito alla diffusione di una notizia secondo cui un bimbo della provincia di Nyanza era risultato affetto da poliomielite di tipo 1, furono effettuate vaccinazioni in 129 province. Mugo ha aggiunto che, come misura preventiva, saranno istituite 'antenne' sanitarie ai posti di confine per evitare che il virus sia importato nel Paese. (AGIAFRO) .

Among the several different vaccinations recommended for babies is the one for polio. Unlike the inactivated polio vaccine commonly used in developed countries, alive-attenuated vaccine, taken orally, is common in Japan, where the inactivated vaccine hasn't been approved.
On learning that the inactivated polio vaccine is considered safer because it holds fewer risks of paralytic poliomyelitis, and is commonly used in industrialized nations, Sakai took her son to a clinic in Tokyo that individually imports the inactivated type even though it would cost her more.
"I've watched news stories about the side effects of oral polio vaccines, so I wanted to choose a vaccine that was as safe as possible," the young mother said.

Kinderlähmung ist grausam: Seit 50 Jahren gibt es in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland eine Impfung gegen Polio, in der ehemaligen DDR noch länger. Die Krankheit konnte aber bis heute nicht ausgerottet werden.

Four hospitals failed to report suspected cases of polio in a far northwestern region of China that experienced an outbreak of the disease last August, the regional government said Tuesday.
During the epidemic monitoring period, the hospitals, located in four cities in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, including the regional capital Urumqi and the border town Kashgar, failed to report 23 cases of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP), a common indicator of polio, according to the regional government's health bureau.
Twenty persons have been infected since a polio epidemic started in Xinjiang last August. The local government has conducted large-scale vaccinations across the region.
Poliomyelitis, or polio, is a viral disease of the brain and spinal cord that mainly affects children under five years old. One in 200 infections leads to irreversible paralysis, usually in the legs. AFP is a sudden onset of weakness or paralysis, as is commonly found with polio.
Four regions in Xinjiang -- the prefectures of Hotan, Kashgar, Bayingolin and Aksu -- were classified as epidemic zones.
Regional health authorities have ordered strengthened monitoring efforts, especially among the migrant population who move in and out of the region during the Spring Festival.

Rund 60 000 bis 80 000 ältere Menschen leiden heute an Post-Poliomyelitis, einer Folgeerscheinung einer Poliomyelitiserkrankung.
Bad Wildbad - "Kinderlähmung ist grausam, Schluckimpfung ist süß!" so hieß es vor einigen Jahrzehnten in Deutschland, und viele der an Polyomyelitis erkrankten jungen Leute kamen zur Behandlung nach Wildbad.
